Symptoms of sleep
deprivation.
Lack of sleep may
seem harmless, but sleep deprivation causes harm to the
body and mind. It’s recommended that every individual
should get between 6 and 7 hours of sleep every day. The
body needs rest for it to function properly. Lack of
sleep over a continuous period of time will make you to
age quickly and it also affects your appearance. You
cannot afford to compromise on the quality of sleep as
this will have rippling effects throughout your life.
Shockingly enough, lack of sleep affects an individual’s
libido, reducing the desire for intimacy. This further
emphasizes the need and importance of
sleep.
Effects of
sleep deprivation.
Sleep deprivation
affects your immune system. This puts you at a risk
getting colds and other ailments. In worst cases, it can
affect the cardiovascular system leading to chronic heart
diseases such as heart failure, stroke and high blood
pressure. Lack of sleep can also cause eating disorders
and in turn lead to obesity. People who can’t sleep at
night tend to snack a lot and this makes them overweight.
One can also develop diabetes.
Lack of sleep means that
the sugars in your body do not get metabolized. The sugar
turns into fats and they can even clog the heart. Loss of
memory is also a condition associated with lack of sleep.
If the mind does not rest it’s not able to function
properly and ones concentration span is reduced.
Individuals who do not get enough sleep tend to forget
things very easily. People who lack sleep often appear as
though they are intoxicated. Other effects include slow
speech, stress, fatigue, exhaustion and
depression.
Symptoms of sleep
deprivation.
People who
lack sleep are often very irritable and tend to get
annoyed by very minor things. They become short tempered
and become very petty. They also appear very tired even
when they haven’t done much work. They also experience
poor memory and have no recollection. Lack of sleep may
also lead to poor coordination and cause blurry vision.
Your senses are not alert and it takes time to react to
things. One is also not able to concentrate and the mind
often wanders away. This makes it hard to follow
conversation or grasp what is being taught in
class.

How important
is sleep?
The best way
to answer that question is to look at the adverse effects
of lack of sleep. Research done indicates that over
100,000 crashes on the road as a result of fatigue cased
by lack of sleep. The motor crashes are mostly fatal.
Prevention is better than cure; getting enough sleep
could cause a major difference in your life. Nothing is
worth losing your sleep over. Getting those 6 hours of
sleep could help maintain that young look in your face.
Studies also indicate that people who sleep more live
longer. Sleep deprivation can have serious adverse
effects on your body.
