icon  Sleeping disorders in teenagers

There are two types of sleeping disorders in teenagers; psychological and physical.Growing children undergo lot of psychological stress on account of newly revealed phenomena which appear to them just inexplicable. Unusual growth of hair, for example is not something which they know already. It is a new experience for them and this burdens them while sleeping with a question in their subconscious about what might have gone wrong which caused the unusual change? The stated and similar unusual changes are in fact the major causes of sleeping disorders in teenagers.

Sleeping Disorders in Teenagers

Girls being closer to mothers are luckier in this respect as they get instant and due guidance both in home and in academia. Consequently they are more protected, well guided and suffer lesser than boys. On the other hand Boys, are not as lucky as girls because fathers are not so close to their sons in this matter and mothers take it as granted that it is father’s duty. Boys are therefore left to consult their friends who themselves are in doldrums. It is on this account, very difficult for them to accept the new changes. Consequently boys are more exposed to the misinformation from unreliable sources.

Catch 22

Another problem, the teens experience is that when they try to enter the sphere of adults, they are simply ignored and considered too young to be their company. Frustrated by this situation the teenagers revert to the younger children who too reject their company considering them only too senior to be taken as friends. They are on the horns of dilemma then, and feel trapped in a no win situation; the catch 22.

Sleeping Disorders in Teenagers

Girls too experience the same and in this respect they are not luckier than boys. Explaining the situation by this example doesn’t mean that other problems do not exist. there are lots of them which might appear trifle though to seniors ,have a many times magnified adverse impact on innocent and puzzled minds. It should not be a matter of surprise then, that teenagers too suffer from sleeping disorders just like adult men and women, with the only difference that their causative factors and mode of disorder are different in nature.

Insomnia VS. sleeping disorders in teenagers

Sleeping disorders in teenagers are not same as Insomnia. The prominent difference between them is that ‘Insomnia’ is an inability to have uninterrupted sleep while the sleeping disorder in teenagers is there inability to wake up on time after sufficient and uninterrupted sleep. Unlike insomniacs, teenagers need tender care rather than medication. They need to be proactively, educated regarding the changes they might expect. They need to be facilitated to acclimatize to the newly emerging changes. No efforts should be made to prepare them to face challenges. This cultivates unknown fears in the innocent, minds and hearts. It can aggravate the sleeping disorder with consequent frustration to make them lethargic or hinder their on time wake up with fresh mind and body.
