In order that
a treatment is effective for a disease, it has to be
compatible with the frequency and severity of the
disease. To use high potency drugs for sleep paralysis
treatment can do more harm than good. Although sleep
paralysis is a frightening experience yet the disorder is

What has to be
identified then? First of all it is to recall how often
and for how long do you experience the episode of sleep
paralysis. You also have to identify the sleeping

softness of your bed, use of pillows, noise level,
temperature and relative humidity, general color scheme
of your bed room and light intensity. All this may not sound relevant to the

disorder than an array of self suggested or prescribed
pills. You have also to note the diet consumed on the day
of occurrence and the time you slept in day. It is also

position to take corrective and preventive action in a
systematic way. Taking into consideration try
to:
- Sleep
sidewise and not on the
back
- Use a
mattress of medium softness
- Use dim
light, but don’t be without
it
- Maintain
the
room temperature, just
a few degrees below your body
temperature
- Avoid
consumption of
any thing containing
alkaloids like caffeine( in coffee),nicotine (in
tobacco)or Theo bromine ( in
chocolate)
- Avoid too
low or too high Relative humidity. Forty is too low
and seventy is too high
- Relax before sleeping, don’t sleep to
relax and it is the crux of treatment for sleep
paralysis.
- Remind
yourself of your first contact in emergency, prior to
sleeping
- Take a quick
and cold shower, a glass of sweetened whole milk ( of
course not in case of diabetics), use a mild and
favorite perfume and read just before
sleeping
a few pages from your
favorite classics
- Ensure
suppleness of muscles and an easy frame of
mind
- Autosuggest ( or simply remind
yourself) that you are not afraid of anything and
that you can not be easily intimidated by any
superstitions
Since sleep
paralysis is an event occurring within sleep, it is
different from narcolepsy which is
an event of suddenly falling asleep from a state of
wakefulness. It is only this later case that you should
ask for medical assistance otherwise just don’t
panic.
Remember that
sleep paralysis treatment is a matter of improving your
respiratory and nervous system and smoking is injurious
for both.
