REM sleep
cycle
REM is an
abbreviation for rapid eye movement. This condition
manifests itself when one is in deep sleep and dreaming.
A person experiencing REM sleep cycle appears as if they
are awake because of the movement of the eye. The eye
movement indicates the speed at which the person is
dreaming. This helps physicians to determine the sleep
patterns of the patients. Fascinating enough, the eye
movements can tell what the person is dreaming about.
Rapid eye movements may suggest that the dream involves
someone throwing something. Dreams manifest in a cycle
and one experiences a new dream after about one and a
half hours. REM sleep doesn’t occur throughout the night
as sleep patterns keep changing.
REM sleep
cycle
Indeed REM sleep is
vital and everyone needs to experience deep sleep.
Maximum rest is only achieved when one is dreaming. It’s
impossible to induce REM sleep by ensuring that you sleep
n a comfortable mattress. This will help your mind to
relax and it can wander away to dream land. People who
experience deep sleep wake up more relaxed.
Effects of REM
cycle.
When one
experiences REM cycle they appear as though they are
paralyzed. The level of blood sugar increases causing
irregular breathing. People who suffer from REM cycle do
not get sleep paralysis as they bodies still remain
active. The dreams appear very real and persons having
the dreams can be heard screaming, tossing and throwing
things. Serious cases of REM cycle can be severe
especially if an individual harms himself or the people
around him.

Causes
of
REM
cycle.
Cases of
sleeping can be as a result of REM sleep. REM cycle can
also be a symptom of diseases such as Parkinson and
dementia. This rare condition is experienced by older
adults and is more common in men. There is no known cure
for this ailment and one can only manage the condition by
treating the symptom.
Stages of REM
cycle.
Normal sleep
can be categorized in two groups: REM and NREM cycles.
Each stage is dependent on the frequency of brain waves
that are produced when one is sleeping. On average a
complete cycle lasts for about 90-100 minutes. A normal 8
hours sleep is comprised of between 4 to 5 cycles, this
includes the REM cycle. There are thus 5 stages of sleep.
The NREM and the REM cycle interchange and occur at
different times. On average the REM cycle last for an
hour. During the REM cycle one experiences deep sleep
characterized by several dreams. Persons in this stage do
not react to any external noises. People who suffer from
Hypersomnia are more susceptible to REM cycle.REM cycle
is manageable but individuals should be monitored at
night to ensure that they do not injure themselves. It’s
very important to seek medical attention so that a
correct diagnosis can be made. The symptom may be an
indicator of a more serious ailment such as
dementia.
